Qatar Airways, which launched nonstop daily flights between Boston and Qatar’s capital city of Doha last month, plans to introduce a “patented” new luxury cabin experience and seats on the route next year — but the details are a closely held secret.
The plan is so secret that only five Qatar Airways employees are privy to it, and Airbus and Boeing have signed confidentiality agreements, according to Akbar Al Baker, the airline’s group CEO.
The new class will be a level above the route’s current business class offering and retrofitted on the state-owned airline’s Airbus A350s that it introduced to Logan International Airport, Al Baker said at a Hub press conference yesterday at the Ritz-Carlton.
“The product will be patented, so no other airline will be able to copy its amenities or design,” Al Baker said, referring to it as a first-class cabin that’ll be sold as a business-class product. Al Baker described bookings for the Boston-Doha flights as good and on the uptick.
