199 passengers escape death on BA plane in Kano

British Airways Over 199 people narrowly escaped death when an air disaster was averted after a British Airways aircraft landed safely at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, MAKIA. The airline with flight number G-VIIH had left Abuja at around 4.05pm on its way to London when it developed a serious technical problem, Sunday Trust has learnt. Investigations revealed that efforts by the pilots to rectify the fault failed and were therefore forced to demand an emergency landing permit at the nearest airport. Officials at the MAKIA tower received an emergency request at around 4.58 pm from the pilots who identified their predicament and sought to land at the airport to prevent the aircraft from crashing. Reports indicate that the airline might have lost one of its engines shortly after taking off from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at around 4.58pm, Nigerian time. The airline which had 185 passengers and 14 crew members was allowed to land at the MAKIA at around 5.05pm Nigerian time, after emergency measures were provided...... Moteurs RR Trent 800 ou GE90 ? Quand on lit tout le récit (non officiel, à ce stade ! Prudence), ..... on se demande si l'avion / le vol aurait dû être "cleared for take-off" !

Des PB d'Air conditionné mal ou pas réglés ! Apparamment !

The crew of a British Airways Boeing 777-200, registration G-VIIH performing flight BA-82 from Abuja (Nigeria) to London Heathrow,EN (UK) with 172 passengers and 14 crew, declared emergency and diverted to the nearest airport Kano (Nigeria) when smoke became visible in the cockpit and smell of smoke was noticed in the first class cabin. The flight crew donned their oxygen masks, the passenger oxygen masks were not deployed. The landing in Kano was safe, the passengers disembarked normally.

The crew of the inbound flight BA-83 had already declared PAN while on arrival to Abuja. Engineers isolated one air conditioning system and thought they'd have fixed the problem. BA-82 departed with a delay of nearly 6 hours as a result.

The flight is currently expected to arrive in Heathrow with a delay of more than 24 hours.

Franchement ! Mais je reste curieux de savoir de quel type de moteurs il s'agit (j'ai mes raisons ! ).

Bonjour, je donne le lien qui indique que les moteurs sont des General Electric 90-85B, si l'avion est bien le G-VIIH, mais, semble t il, bien éloignés du cockpit ?

Mes soupçons sont confirmés ! Je ne vais pas taper sur GE ! Ceci n'est pas le but ! Mais je suis persuadé (et Rlmer "Sherlock HOLMERS" pourrait , peut-être confirmer....) que ceci fait parti d'un lot de B777-200, réceptionné par BA (client de lancement des GE90 sur cet "airframe"), et qui a nécessité des auscultations spéciales !

Vu l'âge de l'avion (il n'est pas "vieux"), il y a de fortes chances que BA soit tenté de chercher à le virer ! L'appareil fait parti de la génération, livrée à BA, dont un a déjà été envoyé chez le Ferrailleur.

A Boeing 777 is heading for the breaker’s yard for the first time, just 11 years after the twinjet first entered service.

Memphis-based Universal Asset Management says it has acquired a General Electric GE90-90B-powered 777-200 (MSN 27109) - the nineteenth aircraft off the line - for disassembly.
According to Flight’s Acas database, the aircraft was originally delivered to British Airways (BA) in January 1996 as G-ZZZE, being one of five non-Extended Range variants that the airline operated. The aircraft was a sister ship of G-ZZZA pictured below.

Universal, which has disassembled over 160 airliners in the past 10 years, says that this marks the first disassembly of a 777.....

Ces premiers exemplaires de B777-200 ne sont pas recherchés sur le marché d'occasion ! C'est tout le problème des premiers B777-200, motorisés par GE & P&W. Ils vieillissent mal, et cela se sait !

Ne pas oublier les faits : le protectionnisme américain (USA) avait fonctionné pour faire passer la certfication du RR Trent 800 après celles des produits rivaux des deux motoristes américains ! Ensuite RR leur a taillé les croupières, prenant plus de 50% du marché !

Salut, Poncho ! Non ! Un peu plus jeune, seulement, et encore ....peut-être légèrement plus âgé, ... car il faudrait bien calculer les mois !

Le premier avait 11 ans environ (1995-2006) ! Celui -ci, aussi (1997-2009)! Pour cette génération, hélas, à moteurs GE90, on est 'dans les temps' pour les problèmes (seulement) "agaçants', mais à potentiel de risques lourds (même s'il ne s'agit pas de problème à stigmatiser côté moteur).

D'ailleurs, je précise & souligne pour les susceptibles -- il y en a vraiment trop !! -- que j'utilise ces détails uniquement pour positionner la 'séniorité' de l'avion, & son "pedigree" dans l'ancienneté encore modeste de ces appareils !

Vu... je ne pensais pas à l'age... mais uniquement pas à la date de naissance...

Pour dire que ce n'était pas un des premiers de la série...

Douze ans pour un zinc ça fait peu... autant les faire en bois !

Exactement ! Ce lot-là semble mal vieillir ! Et la valeur résiduelle en souffre !
