Hawaiian Airlines CEO Mark Dunkerley believes no other aircraft rivals the operation of the Boeing 717 used on the carrier's inter-island flights.

After the demise of Aloha Airlines in April of 2008 Hawaiian stepped in quickly to fill some of Aloha's
capacity in the inter-island market, at one point using its spare 767 aircraft on the 18-minute hops.

Eventually Hawaiian sourced four additional 717s, and now operates 33 of the aircraft in its inter-island
    network.

Dunkerley says the 717 is ideally suited for the high-frequency, short flights Hawaiian performs in the
islands, telling attendees at the carrier's investor day that few of those markets exist. That is probably one factor the out-of-production aircraft was not a successful seller, he notes.

Continuing in his high regard for the aircraft, Dunkerley say if Hawaiian had to "re-spec" an aircraft for inter-island operations it would be the 717, calling it an "absolutely terrific airplane for what we want to do".

Dunkerley equally praises Boeing rival Airbus, joking that the A350 could allow Hawaiian do to "ludicrous things like Honolulu to Europe nonstop". He says that in no way is a suggestion for a new route in the carrier's offing. Hawaiian has a firm order for six A350-800s, with deliveries scheduled to start in 2017.

Overall Hawaiian's capacity for 2009 is remaining relatively flat as the economic climate remains uncertain. The carrier could see a slight shrinkage of its growth in the September time frame as 767s are sequentially pulled for installation of blended winglets.

    Sur ATN :

Hawaiian Airlines, Inc., a subsidiary of Hawaiian Holdings, Inc. today announced its systemwide traffic statistics for May and year-to-date.

For the month of May 2009, systemwide load factor declined 2.4 percentage points to 83.3% compared to 85.7% in the year earlier period with traffic declining 2.0% compared to a 0.9% increase in capacity. Hawaiian's statistics for May 2008 reflect the immediate
impact of a surge in passengers following the collapse of two of its competitors.

The aviation industry is working on fuel conservation measures as a key way to reduce carbon emissions and costs with many airlines teaming up with technology partners to develop more fuel-efficient planes. As an example, Hawaiian Airlines, recently partnered with Rolls-Royce, to build a new fleet of fuel-efficient planes, scheduled to launch next year, reports KHNL.com in Honolulu. Hawaiian Airlines is spending $460 million to build fuel-efficient and clean engines.

Rolls-Royce now makes gas turbine engines for civil aircraft engines, defense, naval,
marine, energy, and a variety of products including the Trent 700 engine, which will power Hawaiian Airlines’ new fleet of Airbus A-330s, according to the news station.

    Bonsoir à tous,

Le trafic de septembre 09 comparé à septembre 08 :

    + 14,9 %
    + 3,1 % pour la capacité
    + 3,8 points à 83,8 % pout le coefficient de remplissage

    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Hawaiian-Airlines-Reports-prnews-2613356179.html?x=0&.v=1

    http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2011/06/30/359039/hawaiian-adds-717s-for-new-interisland-push.html

awaiian Airlines is making an interisland push with three additional Boeing 717s being leased from Boeing Capital to support 20 additional flights in October.
Hawaiian signed multi-year leases on the aircraft, which are duel for delivery in September, October and November.
The additional 717s allow Hawaiian to "expand its interisland service between Honolulu and Kahului, Lihue, Hilo, and Kona during peak travel periods" while also improving "its industry-leading operational reliability".

    ©Hawaiian

"With our increasing service to Hawaii from Asia, demand for our interisland flights during peak hours of the day and during popular travel periods has never been higher. Adding these aircraft will give us the ability to serve more customers during these periods," said Hawaiian president and CEO Mark Dunkerley.
To support the expanded interisland service Hawaiian plans to hire 40-50 new flight attendants, ground staff and pilots.
In addition to the three new leases, Hawaiian purchased its existing 15 717s "in a refinancing transaction that reduces its fleet costs over the long term", said Hawaiian.

First of all let me tell you that as someone who looks to seize upon every opportunity that I can, I would dearly love for there to be excellent connections between Hawaii and India. India is absolutely terrific. We have some business activity in India, IT [Information Technology] and accounting is performed there and every opportunity I get to go to India I easily take up. It is however going to be beyond the range of even the A350, if you look at the range profile of the A350 coming out of Honolulu, it sort of just gets to Singapore, but it wouldn’t get to India. Whether Singapore and cities in China are part of our vision for the future? I think that we’d look at them very seriously and they possibly would be the kind of routes that we would operate with the A350s.

    http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/hawaiian-maintains-a350-800-order-394474/

    "
PHawaiian Airlines says that it does not “see a need” to change its order for six Airbus A350-800 aircraft, after the largest remaining order for the variant was converted to the larger -900 model.
“At present, we don’t see a need to alter our A350 order,” says the Honolulu-based carrier. It adds that it remains in close contact with the manufacturer regarding the aircraft programme.
Deliveries to Hawaiian are scheduled to begin in 2017.
American Airlines-subsidiary US Airways disclosed that it had converted its order for 18 A350-800s to the -900 on 27 December, reducing the number of outstanding firm orders for the smaller variant to 61 aircraft.
The A350-800 seats 276 passengers in a standard two-class configuration compared to 325 passengers on the -900, according to Airbus.
The smaller A350 could replace some of Hawaiian’s existing fleet of 294-seat Airbus A330-200s, while the larger variant would represent growth for the carrier
    "
