GoAir may place order at Paris Air Show

GoAir could
place an order for anywhere up to 50-70 aircraft, which may include several
options, this official said. Airlines usually place an order with options, which
they can later firm up. It’s last order was in 2006 for 10 Airbus A320 aircraft.

Airbus is to fly the Korean Air Airbus A380 at the Paris air show today, a substitute for the aircraft damaged in a ground collision on 19 June.
The Korean Air jet, fitted with Engine Alliance GP7200 powerplants, will perform at 16:15, said the airframer.
It is unclear whether Airbus intends to conduct the same display routine it had planned for the test A380.
That aircraft lost a starboard wing fence and damaged its wingtip after striking a building while taxiing after landing.
"We've been looking for an alternative solution," said Airbus.
Flying the Korean Air jet had been examined as an option, the company said.
Using another test A380 had been ruled out because modification work for testing the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engine on the jet is too far advanced. Grounding of the display A380 was a "left-footed start" to the Paris air show, said Airbus. "But you'll see us recovering."

L'A380 accidenté est réparé et devrait voler en remplacemnt de celui de Korean Airlines qui le remplaçait au pied levé.

Qatar threatens to cancel A350-1000s after upgrade disappointment

Airbus A350 launch customer Qatar Airways
has warned that it may abandon its A350-1000 order if the recently
unveiled redesign fails to provide a sufficient step in performance over
the Boeing 777-300ER. Airbus
unveiled its revamped A350-1000 at the start of the Paris air show,
with changes centring on a more powerful Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engine,
revised wing and increased weights, which boosts range by 400nm (740km).
As part of the revamp, Airbus has slipped the first delivery by two
years to mid-2017 and raised the list price by $9 million. However,
the reaction from the market has been mixed, with several customers,
including launch customer Qatar Airways, which has 20 -1000s on order,
believing that Airbus has not gone far enough to improve the
350-seater's competitiveness over the rival, and slightly larger, Boeing 777-300ER.
"I was expecting that Airbus would make a competitor to the 777-300ER,
that we would have considerably lower seat-mile costs and at least 15%
more range, but that is not going to happen," said Qatar Airways chief
executive Akbar Al Baker. "What they are going to give us is
fewer seats than the 777-300ER and marginally more range," he said,
speaking exclusively to Flightglobal. "Why should I go for a new
aeroplane while I already have one that has more revenue generation and
just a little less range. I'm investing in this aircraft with very
little marginal benefit, range-wise, and negative benefit
capacity-wise." Al Baker added that in addition to this, the
revised A350-1000 "is going to be 18 months late - and that is as of now
- which means I will have to buy more Boeings to keep up with my fleet
plan. And now we also don't have all the commonality benefits that they
told us we would have. "Airbus is not listening to us - I don't think they've achieved anything with this investment," he said. Al
Baker said Qatar Airways has the right to "walk away" from the order if
the aircraft does not meet agreed performance requirements: "Once
things are clear to us, we may cancel the -1000s or switch them to the
-900 variant and transfer some to our leasing division." Al Baker warned that if Boeing
can harvest a 5% fuel burn improvement as part of its 777-300ER
improvement effort, "that alone will defeat the -1000 programme". One
leasing company source told Flightglobal: "Boeing will be very happy if
Airbus builds the A350-1000 that it is talking about now."

L’édition 2011 du salon
aéronautique du Bourget a failli faire de l’ombre à celle de 2007 chez
Airbus. Tom Enders, le Président de l’avionneur européen, et John Leahy,
son directeur commercial, ont révélé, lors de la conférence de clôture
du 23 juin, que le salon 2011 avait été le meilleur de l’histoire
d’Airbus en termes de nombre d’appareils commandés. John Leahy a
toutefois précisé qu’il n’était pas fini et que d’autres contrats
pourraient être annoncés dans la journée, voire demain…

A ce stade, Airbus a tout de même enregistré des commandes pour 730
appareils, évalués à 72,2 milliards de dollars, selon les prix affichés
au catalogue. Ce décompte ne prend pas en compte la confirmation de
l’acquisition par IndiGo de 180 Airbus A320, dont 150 A320neo, car elle
avait initialement été dévoilée au début de l’année.

Tom Enders a avoué qu’il ne s’attendait pas à un tel succès de
l’A320neo. La version modernisée et remotorisée de l’A320 a en effet
effacé les autres appareils de l’avionneur durant ce salon, engrangeant
plus de 600 engagements. Quant à John Leahy, il avait déclaré le 22 juin
que le nombre de commandes depuis le début de l’année pourrait dépasser
le millier d’exemplaires durant le salon ; c’est chose faite, l’A320neo
en compte désormais 1 029.

Airbus est par ailleurs en négociation avec Alafco pour faire passer son
contrat de 30 à 50 A320neo. En revanche, l’avionneur ne souhaite pas
que les clients de l’A320 convertissent leurs appareils en neo. La
version classique du monocouloir ayant encore de beaux jours devant
elle, comme l’ont prouvé les accords de ces derniers jours, il réfléchit
même à la possibilité d’augmenter à nouveau les cadences de production
(qui accélèrent déjà pour atteindre 42 appareils par mois).

Les commandes du 23 juin

La matinée a été chargée pour l’avionneur ce matin. Il a annoncé une
nouvelle commande ferme de la low-cost japonaise Skymark pour deux A380,
ce qui porte son engagement total à six Super Jumbo. Ils sont estimés à
750 millions de dollars.

GoAir a confirmé l’annonce de la semaine dernière, portant sur
l’acquisition de 72 A320neo pour 6,6 milliards de dollars. Les
livraisons doivent débuter à partir de 2016. La compagnie indienne
exploite aujourd’hui une dizaine d’A320 et doit en recevoir autant dans
les deux prochaines années.

Enfin, la commande de la journée a été signée par Air Asia. Attendue
depuis plusieurs jours, elle porte sur 200 A320neo, ce qui en fait la
plus importante de l’histoire d’Airbus en termes de nombre d’appareils.
Elle est évaluée à 18,2 milliards de dollars. Tous les monocouloirs
seront motorisés par des LeapX de CFM International. Ils rejoindront en
priorité la flotte de la compagnie mère en Malaisie, ainsi que celle de
ses filiales en Thaïlande et aux Philippines.

C'était vraiment magnifique à voir.
De l'émotion à penser que cet avion vole grâce au soleil à 70 km/h avec 1 passager.
Augmenter ces données demandera de nombreuses optimisations mais cette équipe suisse aura vraiment ouvert une voie.

Est-il utile de préciser que Bertand Piccard, le "père" du Solar Impulse est "l'aventurier" au sens propre du terme, le Steve Fossett suisse qui a d'ailleurs à son actif un tour du monde en montgolfière avec le fameux Breitling Orbiter.
Je ne désespère pas de le rencontrer un jour.

Although it was swept aside at the Paris Air Show last week by the
torrent of orders for the Airbus A320NEO, the manufacturer’s owner EADS’
proposal for an all-electric airliner may be what replaces them in the
2030s.
This is the first plan for a completely electric large airliner. It
is powered by what EADS regards as achievable electric battery
technology by the time the latest airliners in service today have run
out of relevance in a world where zero fossil carbon emissions will be
essential for all forms of mass transport.
In the basic plan below, liquid nitrogen is used to cool
superconducting electric motors driving contra-rotating shrouded
propellers at the end of an easy-load wide body cabin.

While no range or payload claims were made by EADS, sources said the
concept was seen as plausible replacement for the single aisle designs
currently used for short to medium haul high frequency inter-city
routes, meaning 737s and A320s.
Jean Botti, Chief Technical Officer for EADS, said the capabilities
of today’s batteries and electric motors are far short of what is
theoretically possible, and realistically deliverable within 20 years.
Botti said high temperature superconducting materials were the key to
overcoming the limitations of conventional electric motors, and had the
potential to exceed the weight efficiency of gas turbine engines. He
said these HST electric motors were expected to reach power levels of
7-8 kW/kg and with almost no electrical losses by the 2030s.
The design envisages a completely removable battery bank, thus taking
from the fuselage and wing design all of the complexity of liquid fuel
tanks and distribution systems. The concept envisages that with all of
the battery maintenance and recharging conducted on the ground, the
replacement of the battery containers between flights would be achieved
in no more than the time conventional refuelling currently takes.
The broad ovaloid shape of the fuselage also houses all of the
undercarriage, allowing for a clean wing uncluttered by engine mountings
or wheel housings.
Just over a year ago Boeing, under contract to NASA, revealed its
hybrid electric SUGAR Volt design for a high wing 150 seat design. SUGAR
stands for subsonic ultra-green aircraft research, and some of the
proprietary information and supporting graphics were published by Plane Talking and Aviation Week after they were inadvertently placed in the public domain.
The Boeing proposal is better explained in that article than the EADS
proposal, and like a hybrid automobile today, seeks to convert kinetic
energy into battery recharging, hopefully with more efficiency than such
cars today

Le seul inconvénient des batteries par rapport au fuel c'est qu'on garde le même poids au décollage et à l'atterrissage ... plus de différence entre MTOW et MLW, c'est la même, ce qui va probablement avoir aussi des incidences sur dimensionnement des structures
Plus de variation de centrage non plus d'ailleurs
Quand au monomoteur ? est-ce acceptable même en électrique ?
