[ltr]Germania said last month it had secured more than €15 million in financing, but the deal apparently fell through. “Unfortunately, we were ultimately unable to bring our financing efforts to cover a short-term liquidity need to a positive conclusion,” Balke said Tuesday in a statement on the carrier’s website. “We very much regret that consequently, our only option was to file for insolvency.”[/ltr]
[ltr]The insolvency covers the airline and its sister maintenance company, Germania Technik Brandenburg, as well as Germania Flugdienste. Its Swiss carrier Germania Flug and Sofia-based Bulgarian Eagle have not been affected.[/ltr]
[ltr]Germania Flug is an independent Swiss airline with its own AOC, and operations continue as usual, stressed board member Urs Pelizzoni. “We are on course. The current winter flight plan and 2019 summer schedule continue as planned, and the planning for the winter-2019/20 season is already ongoing.”[/ltr]
[ltr]Germania flew some 4 million passengers per year on short- and medium-haul flights from 18 departure airports in Europe to more than 60 destinations within the continent, in North Africa, and the Middle East. Its business model combined scheduled, charter, and ad hoc flights. Together with Bulgarian Eagle and the Germania Flug, Germania operated a fleet of 37 aircraft, mostly A319s.[/ltr]
