Bonjour !

PowerJet, the Snecma/NRO Saturn joint venture, announced yesterday that 100% of certification tests have been completed on the SaM146 engine that will power the Sukhoi Superjet 100. Speaking to reporters at the Regional Airline Assn. Annual Convention in Milwaukee, PowerJet Chairman and CEO Jean-Paul Ebanga said the last medium-bird ingestion test was conducted successfully yesterday and the engine is in the "home stretch" toward EASA certification "sometime this summer."
To date the SaM146 has accumulated 7,000 hr. of testing including 3,500 hr. in flight. "We are flying almost daily in Russia on the SSJ 100 [which is in the midst of flight testing]," Ebanga said. "In terms of reliability, these engines are performing extremely well." The JV plans to build 12 production SaM146s this year, he said. He downplayed talk of additional applications for the engine, stating that "today we want to stay focused on [SSJ] entry into service later this year." The aircraft's delayed delivery to launch customer Aeroflot reportedly has resulted in part from PowerJet’s pushing back the SaM146 certification timetable (ATWOnline, Jan. . Currently there are 122 firm SSJ orders.
