L' IAF lance un tender pour 15 hélicoptères de transport et 22 d'attaque

New Delhi, India - From American, European or Russian suppliers
(WAPA) - India Air Force (IAF) announced the launch of a tender for the purchase of 37 new military helicopters (22 attack and 15 heavy-lift ones) from American, European or Russian manufacturers.
They will replace IAF's aging fleet of Soviet-built aircraft (the Mi-26 bought in the 80s). The news was reported today by Indian newspaper "The Times of India".
According to the newspaper the race was announced for the first time in May 2008 with six contenders:
--American industries Sikorsky (with the Black Hawk),
--Boeing (with the Apache AH-64D)
-- Bell (with the Super Cobra);
--Eurocopter (with the Tiger);
--Russian Mil (with the Mi-35);
--Italian AgustaWestland (with the Mangusta).
Then the tender was relaunched to ensure that the new helicopters would be the most advanced
possible.
Besides the Air Force also Indian army is interested in the new aircraft. This kind of helicopters is used in particular after natural disasters or in missions overseas, like the Chinook in Afghanistan which can carry vehicles and artillery pieces. (Avionews)
