When pilots switch aircraft, they often also move from the captain's seat, traditionally on the left, to the right-hand seat reserved for the co-pilot. That may seem like a minor issue to many passengers, but pilots and safety experts agree that under some circumstances, it can have potentially major safety consequences. On the Asiana flight, the trainer was a veteran 777 captain making his first flight supervising another 777 pilot. He was seated in the co-pilot's seat, rather than his usual captain's position.
