    Antonov discloses An-158 specifications

    Antonov has revealed detailed information about its planned 99-seat An-148 derivative and data about additional variants.

    The Ukrainian design bureau's An-158 is a stretch of the 85-seat An-148 regional jet, which will be able to seat 99 passengers in an all-economy configuration, says Antonov.

    Incorporating two fuselage plugs, the new variant will have a maximum take-off weight of 43,700kg (96,300lb) and a maximum payload of 9.8t. Its cruise speed will be 430-470kt (800-870km/h) and it will be able to fly at 40,000ft (12,200m).

    Details of the An-158, which is due to fly next year, emerged at Aviation Expo China 2009. Deputy chief designer Gennadiy Gabruk says the new variant will make extensive use of composite materials in areas such as the empennage, fin, horizontal stabiliser, slats, flaps, spoilers, the fairings around the high-mounted wing and the landing gear.

    With a payload of 99 passengers, the An-158's fuel burn will be 1,800kg/h, giving the twinjet a range of 2,500km (1,350nm). The aircraft will require a take-off runway length of 1,900m when departing at its maximum weight, and a landing distance of 2,000m when arriving at maximum landing weight.

    Antonov has also disclosed that the An-158 would have two cargo variants. The An-158T, which has a rear cargo door with ramp, will offer a maximum payload of up to 13.5t.

    The An-158T-100, which Antonov calls a cargo multipurpose aircraft, will have a payload of up to 25t. The company also plans a business jet version, designated the An-168.

    Antonov's An-158 Ready to Roll

    Antonov is to fly its 99-seat An-158 in January, according to a press report. The aircraft is a stretched version of the 85-seat An-148 regional jet, which entered service with Ukraine's Aerosvit Airlines in June, at which time Antonov claimed a backlog of 50 firm orders and 80 options. The An-158 is a rival to Sukhoi's Superjet 100, first deliveries of which have been delayed.

    The high-wing An-148 is powered by a pair of Progress D-436 turbofans, The An-158 has two fuselage plugs and increased use of composites. Antonov forecasts demand by 2015 for up to 200 aircraft, including planned cargo versions. The company also sees a market by 2015 for about 60 business-jet versions, the An-168, seating between eight and 40 passengers.

    Ukraine's manufacturer Antonov has unveiled its new An-158 regional twin-jet, a stretched variant of the baseline An-148.

    The jet, registered UR-NTN, is a modified prototype An-148 airframe and carries the colours of Ukrainian carrier AeroSvit.

    During a ceremony in Kiev, Antonov chief Dmitry Kiva said the type, which is designed to accomodates 99 passengers, represented a further step in developing the An-148 aircraft family.

    "There are now more options for our customers and wider marketing opportunities for us," he says, expecting the An-158 to become airborne on 9 May and its certification to be completed before 2011.

    The Moscow government airline Atlant-Soyuz has an order for 30 Antonov regional jets. This includes 10 An-158s, due for delivery in 2012, plus five in VIP configuration in 2011-12.

    Leasing company Ilyushin Finance, which acts as Antonov's marketing agent, expects Moscow's government to provide financial guarantees for the deal in May.

    Today, on July 16, 2010, the new generation 99-seat AN-158 regional jet flew from Kyiv to London to take part in the Farnborough – 2010 Air Show to be held within a period from July 19 to 25. According to Dmytro Kiva, President – General Designer of ANTONOV Company, "We present to the international aviation community a competitive advanced technology product, which meets all modern safety and ecological requirements as well as the demands of potential operators. This is guaranteed by the combination of technological achievements of leading enterprises involved in the AN-158 programme and the vast experience of ANTONOV in the creation of regional aircraft". The comfort of the AN-158 passenger compartment compares favourably with all the most modern airliners and the jetliner may be operated to and from a wide range of airports worldwide.
    The AN-158 performed its maiden flight on April 28, 2010. On that day it started programme of the flight tests. Till present, the aircraft performed more than 30 flights with total duration of 70 hours. In these tests stability, controllability, technical and flight characteristics of the aircraft were checked. It is planned to complete the certification test programme till the end of this year.
    ANTONOV Serial Plant is launching the AN-158 serial production in cooperation with partners from Russian Federation and other countries.
    Participating at Farnborough Air Show, ANTONOV intends to negotiate with representatives of enterprises of aviation industry and the aircraft operators from different countries to promote ANTONOV' products and services to the international market. It is planned to sign several agreements.

    The Interstate Aviation Committee, based in Moscow, has granted a type certificate to the Antonov An-158, a stretched version of the An-148 regional jet (previously known as the An-148-200).

    The new version, certified Feb. 25, features a fuselage that is 1.7 meters longer and has improved avionics and winglets. The An-158 can carry 99 passengers in a single-class configuration with a range of up to 2,500 km, compared with 2,700 km for a 75-seat An-148-100B.

    The certification program was relatively short because it focused on the variants from the baseline aircraft. The An-158 logged merely 79 flights and clocked 147 flight hours. The new aircraft is certified for operations at extreme temperatures (from -55C to +45C) and landing under ICAO Category IIIa rules.

    The An-158 completed its first flight in April 2010. In contrast with the An-148 that is built both in Russia and Ukraine, the new version will be assembled at a Kiev-based Aviant plant in partnership with the Russian aviation industry.

    Russia’s Ilyushin Finance Co. (IFC) leasing company is the launch customer with a firm order for 10 aircraft plus 10 options, announced at the Farnborough Air Show last summer.

    IFC representatives tell Aviation Week that Antonov should deliver the first aircraft this year, but the leasing company is still in negotiations with its potential customers to place it.

    Antonov will sign an agreement with Russian lessor Ilyushin Finance for 10 more An-158s during the show, and is seeking certification for the aircraft in India to turn interest from Indian companies into sales.
    The An-158, which flew at Farnborough in 2010, is making its Paris air show debut this week.
    Antonov deputy chief designer Sergey Fedorov said the company has reached a "protocol of intention" with undisclosed Indian companies which have expressed an interest in the aircraft.
    "We are validating it in the Indian market. After this we will have the possibility to sell it in India," said Fedorov.
    The An-158 has a range of 1,350nm (2,500km) and is capable of accommodating up to 99 passengers. The aircraft, which was certificated by Russian airworthiness authorities in February 2011, is capable of conducting ICAO Category IIIa approaches.
    Its engines are 1.85m (6.1ft) off the ground, meaning that it can land on unpaved airfields, said Fedorov.

    Un long récit plus que positif pour l'avion

    A noter :

    Il est déjà CatIIIa à l'atterro (le SSJ est en cours de certif)
    La cellule est certifiée selon les normes AP-25 et devrait pouvoir être certifiée EASA, mais de mémoire il semble que le problème soit les moteurs qui ne passent à priori pas dans l'état le test d'ingestion d'oiseau
