Cathay Pacific inks deal for six more A350-900s

Cathay Pacific has inked an agreement with Airbus for the purchase of six more A350-900 aircraft in a deal worth $1.62 billion.
It expects to take delivery of the aircraft between 2016 and 2017 and
operate them on long-haul routes to destinations in Europe, said the
airline in a stock exchange statement.
It added that the six aircraft, which brings its order for the -900s to 36, will "replenish and expand" its fleet capacity.
"The
company expects that the Airbus aircraft will deliver improved payload
range capability at competitive operating costs while providing high
standards of passenger comfort and safety," said Cathay.
The aircraft will be paid for in eight instalments, with the first seven to
be made before delivery and the balance once the aircraft are received.
Funding
will come from commercial bank loans and other debt instruments of the
airline or cash generated from its business operations, it added.
Cathay had previously said that it needs "new supper efficient aircraft" to
replace its ageing fleet of Boeing 747-400s and Airbus A340s to meet its
expansion plans.

The airline first signed an agreement for 30 -900s in 2010.

Garuda Indonesia is set to confirm an order for Bombardier regional jets in the next few weeks, most likely at the Singapore Airshow on 14-19 February.

Indonesia's flag carrier had been assessing both the Bombardier CRJ1000 and Embraer 190 for its 18-aircraft sub-100 seat regional jet requirements since early 2011.

It decided on the CRJ a few weeks ago and an announcement is imminent, said an industry source familiar with the negotiation.

The decision is a major boost for Bombardier, which has been flagging behind its Brazilian rival in the regional jet market.

The Canadian company had a net order for only four of its CRJ-series of aircraft, while the backlog for the three months to 31 October 2011 fell to 52 aircraft from 61 at the end of June last year.

In addition, this is a blow to Embraer, which was hoping to secure a deal with Garuda after Indonesian carrier Sriwijaya placed a firm order for 20 E-190s in 2011.

Bombardier pushed its aircraft very strongly in Indonesia, flying down a CRJ700 to Jakarta in August last year for flight demonstrations. While the airframer has both the smaller CRJ700 and CRJ900 in its portfolio, Garuda's preference is believed to be for the CRJ1000.

The aircraft will be based at four Garuda hubs, namely Balikpapan, Denpasar, Ujung Pandang and Makassar, to support the mainline carrier's services, Garuda's president director Emirsyah Satar told Flightglobal Pro last year.

"Regional jets will give us a lot of autonomy as there are fast-growing cities within Indonesia that require direct connections," said Satar.

"If you want to fly from Balikpapan and Banjarmasin, it is tough to operate larger aircraft, but a regional jet would fit such low-density and high-yield routes," Satar added.

Garuda hopes to have a fleet of 153 aircraft by 2015, almost double the 86 aircraft that it now operates, according to Flightglobal's ACAS database.

Apart from the regional jets, these will include 10 Boeing 777-300ERs, 18-20 Airbus A330s and four dedicated freighters. The remainder will comprise Boeing 737-800s.

commande ferme s'ajoute à celle de 50 A320neo signée lors du salon
aéronautique de Dubaï l'an dernier, précise Airbus dans un communiqué.
L'A320neo,
version remotorisée de l'A320, doit entrer en service en 2015. Il a
déjà enregistré plus de 8.300 commandes, précise Airbus.

Transaero Airlines (UN) is close to inking a deal with Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Co (SCAC) for a firm order of six Sukhoi Superjet 100s plus 10 options, CEO Olga Pleshakova said.

“Within several weeks, we plan to sign an agreement on six SSJ100s and options for an additional 10. The first two will be delivered in 2015, two in 2016 and the remaining two in 2017,” Pleshakova told ATW in Singapore, where she accepted the ATW Airline Market Leadership award for 2012.

She said UN will operate the aircraft in a two-class layout, with a business- and an economy-class cabin, on short-haul domestic routes with a high frequency from its hub at St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo airport and in the Russian Far East.

UN in 2009 considered ordering SSJs to substitute its much-delayed outstanding order for 10 Tupolev Tu-214s, which it placed in 2005 (ATW, April 1, 2009). The carrier took delivery of its third Tu-214 in September 2009 (ATW Daily News, Oct. 13, 2009). Production of the Tu-214 has been stopped since, and UN had hoped to reach an agreement with Financial Leasing Co. for them to take the three Tu-214s back and swap them with SSJs.

“We considered substituting our order on the Tupolev-214s into SSJs but left the idea. By 2015 we’ll conclude our lease payments on the Tu-214s and will own them. The Sukhoi Superjet is a different deal,” Pleshakova said.

Taïwan: neuf ATR72-600 pour TransAsia

La compagnie aérienne TransAsia Airways a été autorisée à acheter neuf ATR 72-600, qui viendront s’ajouter aux neuf appareils franco-italiens déjà présents dans sa flotte.

Selon le quotidien Taipei Times du 21 mars 2012, le conseil
d’administration de la compagnie taïwanaise a approuvé l’achat des neuf
ATR 72-600, dont la première livraison devrait prendre place en 2014.
Aucun chiffre n’a été communiqué pour le montant de la commande, le prix
unitaire de l’appareil étant autour de 20 millions de dollars. ATR n’a
pas encore réagi à cette information.

Un communiqué de TransAsia Airways précise que les nouveaux
bi-turbopropulseurs seront déployés sur des routes domestiques, et
remplaceront progressivement leurs prédécesseurs. La compagnie avait
lancé il y a deux ans un plan de renouvellement de sa flotte, avec
depuis la commande chez Airbus de deux A330-300 (le premier doit arriver en novembre) et de 18 A321 dont six A321neo lors du Salon du Bourget.

TransAsia Airways opère une flotte de neuf monocouloirs Airbus (trois
A320 et six A321) plus les neuf ATR 72-500, vers six destinations
domestiques et 20 régionales en Chine, Corée du Sud, Vietnam et à
Singapour. Sa première route vers le Japon devrait voir le jour en juin
prochain, mais elle a pour ambition d’ici cinq ans de desservir toutes
villes majeures d’Asie dans un rayon de neuf heures, y compris en
Australie ou au Moyen Orient.

La série 600 est déjà en service chez Royal Air Maroc, Caribbean Airlines, Azul et TRIP Linhas Aereas, et a été également commandé entre autres par la Taïwanaise UNI Air (filiale d’Eva Air), Air Tahiti, Air New Zealand, Precision Air (Tanzanie), SkyWest Airlines (Australie) ou Wings Air (Indonésie) ou les sociétés de leasing ALC, GE Capital Aviation ou Nordic Capital.

La compagnie taïwanaise EVA Air a décidé de commander trois nouveaux Boeing 777-300ER pour augmenter ses capacités.

Les appareils sont attendus en 2014. Cette nouvelle commande, non
encore confirmée par Boeing, est estimée à 852 millions de dollars au
prix catalogue. EVA Air pourrait également louer trois ou quatre
exemplaires supplémentaires du même type.

EVA Air opère déjà avec 15 777-300ER, le premier lui ayant été livré en 2005.
