The maximum take-off weight (MTOW) for the basic variant is at 268 tons, but EASA has cleared an increased of up to 275 tons which Airbus currently does not offer. According to Evrard, the A350-900 is about three tons heavier than initially planned. The aircraft is certified to fly up to a maximum operating altitude of 43,100 ft.
EASA has also concluded that the A350-900 “is determined to be a variant of the A330/340 series aircraft” and, more precisely, it is considered to be “a variant of the A330-200.” Pilots will be able to fly both the A330 and the A350 with the same type rating.

The EASA certification document indicates that there will be an ETOPS 180 minutes approval and a separate approval for ETOPS beyond that limit, neither of which has been issued yet. Industry sources said Airbus had asked European authorities to clear the A350 to fly for up to 370 minutes on one engine, exceeding the so-called ETOPS limit of 330 minutes on the 787.

...
Airbus said the A350-900 coming off production lines now is 3 tons heavier than initial projections, which forced it to seek approval a higher maximum takeoff weight. Manufacturers’ early versions of planes typically come out heavier than planned, with weight loss achieved during serial production.
