Trans States Holdings signs LOI with Mitsubishi for purchase of 100 MRJ aircraft

Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation (MJET) has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Trans States Holdings (TSH) for an order of 100 next-generation Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) aircraft (50 firm, 50 options). TSH is based in St. Louis, Missouri and is an airline holding company that owns and operates two independent airlines, Trans States Airlines and GoJet Airlines, both of which are large U.S. regional airlines. TSH is entrusted with feeder services for United Airlines and US Airways.

Mitsubishi Aircraft President Hideo Egawa said, “The world has high expectations for the MRJ. One area where this is especially true is the U.S., with many routes where airlines operate 50- to 90-seat regional jets, so we are extremely proud to receive this order from one of the largest regional airline holding companies in the U.S. We would like to take this opportunity to further ramp up our sales activities around the world.”

THY, ANZ place Airbus orders

Turkish Airlines exercised options on three A330s for delivery in 2012 and said it has decided to purchase two A330-200Fs, while Air New Zealand yesterday said it will replace its 15 leased 737-300s with an order for 14 A320s plus 11 purchase rights.

THY said one of the two freighters will be delivered in the second half of 2010 and the other in the first half of 2011. Rolls-Royce said it won an order for Trent 700s worth $350 million at list prices from THY covering the five aircraft. THY Chairman Candan Karlitekin said, "The aircraft represent an exciting new phase of development for the airline and our shareholders."

In August, Turkish firmed up its Paris Air Show MOU for seven A330-300s (ATWOnline, Aug. 19). Those aircraft are scheduled to begin delivering next September.

ANZ said the first A320 is scheduled to be delivered in January 2011, with the remainder arriving through 2015. They will be powered by IAE V2500s. The carrier currently operates 12 A320s.

"This is a very good time to buy aircraft. The industry is at the bottom of a deep cycle so demand for aircraft is limited, creating favorable conditions for buyers with strong balance sheets like Air New Zealand," GM-Short Haul Airline Bruce Parton said.

Boeing ayant annoncé 6 nouveaux 737 commandés par Norwegian, on peut supposer que les 2 manquant correspondent à une commande non-identifiée de 2008.

Dubai 09: 500 up for A350 as Ethiopian firms up XWB MoU

Ethiopian Airlines has confirmed its memorandum of understanding for 12 Airbus A350 XWBs, signing a firm contract today at the Dubai air show.

The deal, which takes A350 orders through 500, was first announced in July and marks the first time Ethiopian has placed an Airbus order. "This is the start of a new relationship," says the airline’s chief executive Girma Wake.

Deliveries are due to begin in 2017, although Wake says that he does not rule out taking A350s on lease ahead of the ordered aircraft arriving.

Ethiopian is already a customer for Boeing’s 787, which Wake says will be deployed on shorter routes from its Addis Ababa hub with sector times of 7-8h. The A350s will be used on longer range flights lasting up to 12h.
